What is this all about?

As of October 10th 2017, Microsoft is discontinuing it’s support for the Office 2007 Suite as it has reached the end of its 10 year lifecycle. After October 10th, Microsoft will no longer release future bugfixes, security patches or provide technical support for any issues that occur after that date. On top of that, users  who Office 365 platform who use Exchange Online will no longer be able to use Outlook 2007 from October 31st, as Microsoft is deprecating the “RPC over HTTP” functionality used by Outlook 2007 to connect to Exchange Online

Does this affect me?

Organisations that are currently using Outlook 2007 & Office 365 (Exchange Online) for email, then this is an extremely important announcement since you will no longer be able to retrieve emails via Outlook post October 31st. Businesses who currently utilise their own On-Premise Exchange server or a 3rd-party hosted Exchange that currently still supports RPC over HTTP won’t lose access to their emails however the discontinuation of security patches & bug fixes still applies and it’s strongly advised to upgrade to Office 2016 or Office 365 for their Office suite

What are my options?

If you are currently using Exchange Online or a 3rd-party hosted Exchange that is later than Exchange 2007:

  • Upgrade to Office 365 ProPlus, the subscription version of Office that comes with many Office 365 plans
  • Upgrade to Office 2016, which is sold as a one-time purchase and available for one computer per license.
  • Upgrade to an earlier version of Office, such as Office 2013.

Businesses who are still on Exchange 2007 or SBS 2008:

  • Microsoft ended support for Exchange 2007 on 11th April 2017 so if you are still running either of these platforms, please get in contact with us and we’ll help you find a suitable migration path

That’s great but how do I upgrade? Is it really that easy?
